Steps for On-page Ranking
Local search is a great SEO technique for you to use when you have a website. Of course, you don’t actually have to have a website for local search to do you some good. But, most of the businesses out there have a website, which means it is imperative you understand how local search can help you in an SEO capacity.
There is some key information your site needs in order to get in the top of the local search. You need to have your physical address and phone number listed in text on every page of your site. You can even have GPS coordinates listed if you wish. Never have multiple addresses on your site because this will cause confusion. Also you should have business hours listed if you have a brick and mortar shop. Users and search engines look for this information. It doesn’t have to be on every page, but on the most important pages.
You’ve heard this over and over- Page Titles are imperative. Your page title needs to have the primary keyword for that page on it. More than that you should have the above information listed on pages like Contact US, About US, and the Homepage. It is even better when you use geo- targeted keywords in your titles. For example if you say Manchester Pearl Jewellery, or London Clock Shop, etc. You have just told the person in your title where you are located.
As with regular SEO you have internal linking needs of your site. Each page needs to link to the overall site in some way. You need to link the pages with anchor text on the pages you want ranked. While there is little impact with regular search, the local search rankings can significantly increase with the right type of internal linking. Remember that with internal linking you also need to have a site map and menu to help link the pages in a logical and easy to use fashion.
The most important thing to remember is that the more detail you give the local search engine the better off you will be in the rankings. If you tell the search engine what your business is, where it is, and what is nearby you are going to answer the internet users questions easily as well as rank better than a site that does not give this information.
Your website designer should be able to help you with setting this up. If he can’t he may know a SEO who can help you.
